Ultrasound of acquired cystic disease of the kidney

Ultrasound of acquired cystic disease of the kidney
A longitudinal view of the right kidney in a 71-year-old male with chronic kidney disease stage 5 and acquired cystic kidney disease. The kidney presents with a thin and echogenic cortex and loss of corticomedullary differentiation. There are several round-shaped hypoechoic lesions, with posterior enhancement throughout the cortex (mostly peripheral) representing simple cysts. The cysts are less than 1.5 cm in their large diameter.
