Grade II traumatic injury of the carotid on MRI

Grade II traumatic injury of the carotid on MRI
A 48-year-old male presents with several weeks of left-sided, retro orbital headache. He sustained blunt trauma two months prior to this presentation. Axial (A) and 3D reconstructed (B) MR angiographic images demonstrate a short segment stenosis (arrow) at the distal cervical segment left internal carotid artery with approximately 40 percent luminal narrowing. Axial fat-suppressed T1-weighted image (C) demonstrates T1 hyperintensity at the vessel wall (arrow), consistent with dissection.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
