Different regions of the Achilles tendon are palpated to help identify different pathology. In the photograph above, the superimposed rectangle is the location of Achilles tendinopathy, the arrows indicate the site of subtendinous (or retrocalcaneal) bursitis, and the area of the oval indicates the site of enthesopathy or subcutaneous bursitis.
