(A) Normal vocal cord abduction at midinspiration. The anterior tracheal rings are visible beyond the vocal cords. (B) Paradoxic adduction of the vocal cords at midinspiration, as seen in most cases of VCD. (C) Partial adduction of the vocal cords with a posterior opening or "chinking", as seen during inspiration in a small percentage of VCD cases.
