Control of the lung hilum
Control of the lung hilum
During resuscitative thoracotomy, control of the pulmonary hilum is obtained by dividing the inferior pulmonary ligament and clamping across the left mainstem bronchus and pulmonary artery and veins. The lung can be twisted clock-wise, which compresses the pulmonary vessels against the bronchus, if an appropriate vascular clamp is unavailable.
