Reconstruction with a DIEP flap

Reconstruction with a DIEP flap
For breast reconstruction with a DIEP flap, a flap of tissue is taken from the belly and reattached to the chest. The flap is made up of skin and fat, not muscle. It is called a "free" flap because it is completely detached from its original location, then connected to blood vessels in the new location.
