Clopidogrel after percutaneous coronary intervention

Clopidogrel after percutaneous coronary intervention
Data from the CREDO trial of more than 2100 patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention, almost all with stenting, who were treated with a loading dose of clopidogrel or placebo before the procedure and then clopidogrel for 28 days; clopidogrel or placebo, according to original randomization, was then given for the remainder of one year. The combined end point of death, myocardial infarction, or stroke at one year occurred significantly less often in those treated with clopidogrel (relative risk reduction 26.9 percent, 95% CI 3.9-44.4 percent).
Data from Steinhubl SR, Berger PB, Mann JT 3rd, et al. Early and sustained dual oral antiplatelet therapy following percutaneous coronary intervention: a randomized controlled trial. JAMA 2002; 288:2411.
