Hepatocellular carcinoma. MRI of the liver without and with contrast in a 73-year-old male with hepatitis C virus and cirrhosis. Axial fast spin echo T2-weighted image with fat saturation (A) shows a hyperintense mass with a thin low signal intensity capsule (arrow). Axial T1-weighted fat-saturated image in the delayed phase of contrast administration (B) shows washout in the tumor relative to adjacent liver while the capsule remains enhancing (arrow).
