Short axis view of the left ventricle on transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)

Short axis view of the left ventricle on transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
Horizontal (0º) imaging plane with advancement of the probe into the stomach with slight anteflexion allows for imaging of the left ventricle (LV) in the short axis.
(A) The anterior (ANT), lateral (LAT) and posterior (POST) walls and the interventricular septum (SEPT) are well seen.
(B) Rotation into the vertical (90º) imaging plane allows for evaluation of the ANT and inferior (INF) walls of the LV. The papillary muscles and chordae tendinae may also be seen.
