Imaging of a hand infection in a patient with sickle cell disease

Imaging of a hand infection in a patient with sickle cell disease
This is an MRI of the wrist in a 4.5-year-old boy with sickle cell disease and a hand infection. The arrow shows an area of fluid collection from an abscess, while the arrowheads highlight areas of diffuse bone marrow signal changes involving the metacarpal bones that are suspicious for osteomyelitis.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
