Germ tube formation in Candida albicans

Germ tube formation in Candida albicans
Rapid presumptive identification of C. albicans can be made by observing the formation of germ tubes (the initiation of true hyphal growth) when incubated in proteinaceous liquid (eg, serum) at 36°C for two to three hours. Germ tubes show no constriction at their point of origin from the yeast cell.
