CT scan of middle ear trauma

CT scan of middle ear trauma
(A) Axial cuts from a CT scan of a patient after a Q-tip injury to the right ear. The stapes footplate is displaced into the vestibule of the inner ear, and an air bubble is noted in the vestibule. Note the subtle CT finding of displacement of the stapes footplate into the vestibule. This injury resulted in immediate hearing loss with intense vertigo associated with ipsilateral nystagmus and repeated episodes of emesis.
(B) Coronal cuts from the CT scan of the same patient.
CT: computed tomography.
