Guidelines for spacing of live and inactivated antigens

Guidelines for spacing of live and inactivated antigens
Antigen combination Recommended minimum interval between doses
Two or more inactivated* None; can be administered simultaneously or at any interval between doses
Inactivated plus live None; can be administered simultaneously or at any interval between doses
Two or more live 28-day minimum interval if not administered simultaneously
PCV13: pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (13-valent); DTaP: diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis.
* No minimum interval is required between administration of inactivated vaccines, with a few exceptions. In individuals with functional or anatomic asplenia, the MenACWY-DT quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (Menactra) should not be given until at least four weeks after all doses of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) have been administered, because of interference with the immune response to the PCV13 series, since both vaccines are conjugated to diphtheria toxin carrier protein. When Menactra and DTaP (Daptacel) are administered to children four to six years of age, preference should be given to simultaneous administration of the two vaccines or administration of Menactra prior to administration of Daptacel, because administration of Menactra one month after Daptacel has been shown to reduce meningococcal antibody response to Menactra.
¶ An exception is made for live oral vaccines (ie, Ty21a typhoid vaccine, oral poliovirus vaccine, oral rotavirus vaccine) that can be administered simultaneously or at any interval before or after inactivated or live parenteral vaccines.
