For proximal humeral intraosseous placement in the skeletally mature adolescent or adult, adduct and internally rotate the arm (hand on abdomen) to make damage to the medial structures of the axillary plexus unlikely. Find the greater tubercle of the proximal humerus approximately 2 cm below the acromion process. Alternatively, palpate the greater tubercle from below. Access the intraosseous space using a battery operated drill.
