Posthyperventilation apnea

Posthyperventilation apnea
Nasal mechanical ventilation for 3 minutes was used to induce hypocapnia, which causes a 6 mmHg decrease in PeCO2 during stable NREM sleep. Central apnea occurs upon cessation of mechanical hyperventilation.
EEG: electroencephalography; EMG: electromyography; PeCO2: exhaled carbon dioxide; NREM: non-rapid eye movement.
