Continuous murmurs begin in systole and continue without interruption through the second heart sound (S2) into all or part of diastole. The continuous murmurs shown here are aortopulmonary, systemic arterial, and systemic venous. A holosystolic murmur (SM) followed by a holodiastolic murmur (DM) represents two separate murmurs, not one continuous murmur.
