Graph showing effect on protein excretion of removal of a circulating factor in recurrent focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis

Graph showing effect on protein excretion of removal of a circulating factor in recurrent focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis
Mean reduction in protein excretion following treatment with a protein adsorption column in 8 patients with recurrent focal glomerulosclerosis after kidney transplantation. 3 patients also underwent plasma exchange at a different time. The degree of proteinuria fell with both modalities by the end of the treatment period and then began to return toward baseline. These findings suggest the presence of a circulating factor toxic to the glomerular capillary wall.
