Comminuted fracture of the distal phalanx of the great toe

Note the incidental finding of a benign exostosis at the medial base of the distal phalanx (arrow). Such exostoses of the toes are relatively common. The halo-effect in the soft tissue is a common artifact that results from adjusting the brightness of radiographs when using certain digital radiographic systems.
