Breastfeeding a newborn in a side-lying position
The side-lying position allows you to breastfeed while lying down. You should only use this position if you are on a bed with a firm surface and with no loose bedding, pillows, or other soft objects. You should not use this position on a waterbed, couch, or recliner, because those surfaces are unsafe for your baby if you fall asleep. After the feed, do not let the baby sleep on your bed. Always put the baby in a separate crib, cradle, or bassinet for sleep.
