Chest computed tomography of extrapleural hematoma due to bleeding from an intercostal artery

Chest computed tomography of extrapleural hematoma due to bleeding from an intercostal artery
(A) Chest computed tomography (CT) scan shows a large right postero-lateral extrapleural biconvex mass with high attenuation clotted blood. The extrapleural mass is delineated by extrapleural fat (arrowhead). The arrow shows the compressive right lower lobe atelectasis with visible air-bronchograms. (B) Extrapleural hematoma a few days later in the same patient. CT scan shows liquefaction of the hematoma with a hematocrit effect (arrowhead). The arrow shows the extrapleural fat line.
