Algorithm for the treatment of akathisia in adults receiving antipsychotic medication

* May not be clinically acceptable when psychosis has been difficult to treat or following several ineffective medication trials.
¶ Percent decreased should be based on clinical history and medication response.
Δ For people who have partial but not sufficient improvement of akathisia with initial dose reduction, the antipsychotic dose can be further reduced slowly while monitoring closely for worsening psychosis.
◊ May not be clinically reasonable or may be clinically undesirable. (For example, in unstable cases with several comorbidities.)
