Babesia is an intracellular protozoal RBC parasite that can cause hemolytic anemia and other cytopenias. The Giemsa-stained peripheral blood smear shows multiple extracellular and intracellular Babesia parasites (arrows) in round, oval, ring forms, and tetrads.
RBC: red blood cell.
