Desaturation time related to ambient oxygen fraction during apneic oxygenation

Desaturation time related to ambient oxygen fraction during apneic oxygenation
The time (duration of apnea) required to reach 50% SaO2 with an open airway exposed to various ambient O2 fractions, based on computational modeling. Note that increasing the ambient oxygen fraction during apneic oxygenation from 0.9 to 1.0 more than doubles the time to desaturation compared with increasing the ambient oxygen fraction from 0.21 to 0.9
SaO2: arterial oxyhemoglobin saturation; O2: oxygen.
