Ultrasound image of the gastric antrum in the solid early stage immediately after meal consumption

Ultrasound image of the gastric antrum in the solid early stage immediately after meal consumption
Immediately after meal consumption, the gastric antrum appears distended with thin walls on an ultrasound image. Gastric content is of high or mixed echogenicity. The specific pattern is a "frosted-glass" appearance that is usually evident shortly after a solid meal. This appearance is due to a mixture of air and solid matter along the anterior wall, with blurring of the posterior wall and deeper structures because sound waves pass through air poorly.
