Thermal ablation for a kidney mass

Thermal ablation for a kidney mass
Consider thermal ablation an alternate approach for management of cT1a kidney masses <3 cm in size. A percutaneous approach is preferred.
Both radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation are options.
A renal mass biopsy should be performed prior to thermal ablation.
Counseling about thermal ablation should include information regarding increased likelihood of tumor persistence/recurrence after primary thermal ablation, which may be addressed with repeat thermal ablation if further intervention is elected.
