Endovascular balloon occlusion for pelvic hemorrhage

Endovascular balloon occlusion for pelvic hemorrhage
The figure shows deployment of an aortic occlusion balloon in zone III. The REBOA catheter (blue) is placed through an access sheath (white). Shown is a dedicated device that does not require a long guidewire for placement; however, initial sheath placement is performed over a short guidewire. If this particular device is not available, any compliant aortic occlusion balloon can be inserted using the standard over-the-wire technique. The balloon may be immediately inflated if ongoing hemorrhage is a concern or left in place deflated and inflated only if needed.
REBOA: resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta.
