Splenic flexure mobilization

The splenic flexure may need to be mobilized to allow for a tension-free colorectal anastomosis. Mobilization of the splenic flexure often requires a combination of approaches (medial to lateral, lateral to medial, superior to inferior, inferior to superior), especially for high-riding flexures.
