Composition of a typical parenteral nutrition solution for administration to premature infants via a central venous catheter; target volume 130 mL/kg/day

Composition of a typical parenteral nutrition solution for administration to premature infants via a central venous catheter; target volume 130 mL/kg/day
Component Concentration (per 100 mL)
Dextrose 12.5 g
Amino acids 2.4 to 2.6 g
Sodium chloride 2 mEq
Sodium phosphate 1 mmol
Potassium acetate 2 mEq
Calcium gluconate 2 mEq
Composition of a typical parenteral nutrition solution for premature infants. When this solution is provided at 130 mL/kg/day, and combined with a 20% lipid emulsion at 10 to 15 mL/kg/day, it meets the expected protein, energy, calcium, and phosphate requirements for most preterm infants. Due to the high osmolarity, this solution should only be administered via a central venous catheter.
