A person under investigation (PUI) for Ebola virus disease (EVD) meets the following criteria:[1] |
- Signs or symptoms compatible with EVD (eg, subjective fever/elevated body temperature, headache, fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea)

AND |
- An epidemiologic risk factor for EVD[2] within 21 days of symptom onset (eg, travel to a country with widespread Ebola virus transmission, proximity to a person with symptomatic EVD)

A confirmed case of EVD requires laboratory-confirmed diagnostic evidence of Ebola virus infection |
