Layers of insulation to reduce heat loss

Layers of insulation to reduce heat loss
A single layer of cotton blanket reduced heat loss in a typical operating room environment by approximately 30%, and three layers reduced heat loss by 50%. It made little difference whether the blankets were at ambient temperature or warmed in an oven before application. Both 30 and 50% reductions are clinically important, but far less effective than active surface warming.
