Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) with pneumatocele formation

Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) with pneumatocele formation
The patient was a 55-year-old woman who developed PCP while undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The pneumonia resolved but no follow-up images immediately following resolution of the pneumonia were available.
(A) High-resolution computed tomography (CT) image at the level of the main bronchi shows extensive bilateral ground-glass opacities.
(B) High-resolution CT image (1-mm collimation) at the same level one month later shows several pneumatoceles (arrows) in the right upper lobe. Also noted is a small left pneumothorax (arrowhead) and a left chest tube in the major fissure (thick arrow).
(C) High-resolution CT image three years later demonstrates resolution of the pneumatoceles.
