Bilateral parotid gland enlargement in Sjögren's syndrome

Bilateral parotid gland enlargement in Sjögren's syndrome
Diagnostic evaluation of a patient with Sjögren's syndrome and bilateral parotid gland enlargement.
(A) Multiple hyperintense foci are seen in the enlarged parotid glands (arrows) on T2-weighted MRI.
(B) Multiple ovoid hypoechoic lesions (arrow) are evident in the left parotid gland parenchyma.
(C) A core needle biopsy of the parotid gland shows a dense lymphocytic infiltrate (arrow) adjacent to normal parotid acinar tissue. Fatty replacement of parotid parenchymal tissue is a normal finding.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
