Stockinette application for long leg cast
Stockinette application for long leg cast
The first step in applying a long leg cast is to position the knee and ankle properly. The degree of flexion at the knee and ankle, and the placement of leg support during casting, depend on the type of fracture type and whether closed reduction is required. Keep the stockinette unstretched when determining the needed length. The stockinette should extend from the proximal greater trochanter to a point just distal to the toes. The size of the stockinette segments for the upper and lower leg should be such that the material is flush against the skin but not constrictive and without folds.
