Variation in menstrual cycle by age

Variation in menstrual cycle by age
Age (years) Difference between longest and shortest cycles (days)*
18 to 25 ≤9
26 to 41 ≤7
42 to 45 ≤9
Data for postmenarchal girls under the age of 18 and premenopausal women over the age of 45 are difficult to discern as ovulatory disorders have a relatively high prevalence. It is suggested that the ≤9 day threshold for normal be used for this population.
* These data are calculated excluding long and short outliers.
