Final height in girls with Turner syndrome after long-term growth hormone treatment in three dosages and low-dose estrogens
(A) Height SD-score for chronologic age (compared with normal Dutch girls) during GH treatment for group A, group B, and group C, respectively. Group A received a GH dose of approximately 45 mcg/kg/day, and groups B and C escalated to doses as high as 67 and 90 mcg/kg/day, respectively, after the first few years of therapy.
(B) Height gain (difference in centimeters between final height and modified projected adult height) for group A (n = 19), group B (n = 20), and group C (n = 21), respectively (arrow indicates the mean for each group).
Note that GH therapy leads to normalization of final height in most girls with Turner syndrome. This is true even when puberty is induced at a relatively normal pubertal age. Optimal GH dose depends on height and age at the start of therapy and on the height velocity during the first year of GH therapy.
